Grandad was a keen and quite accomplished pianist. When I was 7 years old he took on the challenge of teaching my brother and I. We were told we had to keep it up for one year, after which we could decide whether we wanted to continue or not. My brother chose first. He'd had enough.
Right then, in that case, I'm going to carry on
I thought.

This act of puerile sibling rivalry turned out to be a very significant decision for me.

In my early teens I picked up a big, old acoustic guitar that made my fingers bleed and since the age of 15 I've been gigging regularly playing an eclectic mix of musical styles on both keyboards and guitar.

I am currently playing bass with a 10-piece soul & funk band based in Derby and continue to play keyboards and guitar with the dance band I first joined aged 15.
